USTA/VA League Tennis

 

You're a competitor.  Physically you may be in the office or at home, but mentally you're on court.  You just love the game.  There's a name for people like you;

USTA League Tennis Player.

USTA League Tennis is the country's largest recreational tennis league, providing organized, structured team matches for more than 500,000 men and women of all ability levels. The competition is lively, the atmosphere social, and as part of a team,you've got a built-in support entourage that few pros can match.

League Tennis in Virginia comprises play for Adults and Seniors in singles, doubles, and mixed leagues.  If you’d like to become a league player, contact an Area League Coordinator  for a complete list of leagues offered in your area and “Get in the Game”!

Adult League

Adult Leagues for Men & Women are open to USTA members age 19 and over.  The season runs from April to July, with a District Championship in mid-July for qualifying teams.  Leagues are offered for a range of skill levels, from 2.5  to 5.5, with varying play & scoring formats.  Some areas offer indoor as well as outdoor leagues.  So no matter what your rating we have a league for you!

 

 

Adult Mixed Doubles

Adult Mixed DoublesLeagues are comprised of co-ed teams and are open to USTA members age 19 and over.  The season runs from February to June, with a District Championship in mid- June.  Players of differentNTRP levels may play  together on a team, which makes this a great choice for those wanting to play alongside their friends/spouse who are above or below their rating. Levels range from 5.0 to 10.0 and are a combined total of players’ratings, with a 1.0

difference between players on court. For instance, in the 8.0 level a 4.5 and a 3.5 can play together, butnot a 3.0 and a 5.0.  The play format is 3 doubles courts.

 

Adult Singles League

Adult Singles Leagues for Men & Women are open to USTA members age 19 and over. The season runs from September-December.  Levels range from 2.5 to 4.0 and the play format is 3 singles courts. This league does not yet advance to a championship.

 

Combo Doubles League

Combo Doubles Leagues for Men & Women are open to USTA members age19 and over. The season runs from July to September, with a District Championship in early October.  Levels range from 5.5 to 8.5 and are a combined total of players’ ratings, with a max 1.5 difference between players on court.  For instance, in the 8.5 level a 3.5 and a 5.0 can play together, but not a 3.0 and a 5.5.  The play format is 3 doubles courts.

 

Combo Mixed Doubles League

Combo Mixed Doubles Leagues are comprised of co-ed teams and are open to USTA members age 19 and over. The season, District Championship, levels and play formats are consistent with the Combo Doubles Men & Women’s Leagues.

 

Commonwealth Mixed Doubles League

Commonwealth Mixed Doubles League is unique to Virginia.  The area leagues are comprised of co-ed teams and are open to USTA members age 19 and over. The season runs from September-December, with a District Championship in early January of the following year.  Levels range from 6.0 to 10.0 and are a combined total of players’ ratings,  with a 1.0 difference between players on court.  For instance, in the 7.0  level a 3.0 and a 4.0 can play together, but not a 2.5 and a 4.5.  Play format is 3 doubles courts.

 

                   

 

Tri-Level League

Tri-Level Leagues for Men & Women are comprised of teams with players of 3 different levels and are open to USTA members age 19 and over.  The season may begin as early as January and runs through July.  Levels are open, but players must be in a range of 3 levels within .5 of each other (ex. 3.5, 4.0, 4.5).  Play format is 3 doubles courts.  This league may advance directly to the USTA National Championship.

 

Senior League

Senior Leagues for Men &Women are open to USTA members age 50 and over.  The season runs from June-August, with a District Championship in late August.  Levels range from 3.0 to 4.5 and play format is 3 doubles courts.  Some areas offer indoor as well as outdoor leagues.

 

Senior Mixed Doubles

Senior Mixed Doubles Leagues are comprised of co-ed teams and are open to USTA members age 50 and over.  The season runs from June-August and qualifying teams advance directly tothe Mid-Atlantic Section Championship in early September.  Some areas offer an indoor league, which plays from January-May.  Levels range from 6.0 to 9.0 and are a combined total of players’ ratings, with a 1.0 difference between players on court.  For instance, in the 9.0 level a 5.0 and a 4.0 can play together, butnot a 5.5 and a 3.5.  Play format is 3 doubles courts.

 

Super Senior League

Super Senior Leagues for Men & Women are open to USTA members age 60 and over.  The season runs from April-September and qualifying teams advance directly to the Mid-Atlantic Section Championship in early October.  Levels range from 3.0 to 4.0 and play format is 3 doubles courts.

 

Super Senior Mixed Doubles League

Super Senior Mixed Doubles Leagues are comprised of co-ed teams and are open to USTA members age 60 and over.  The season runs from June-September and qualifying teams advance directly to the Mid-Atlantic Section Championship in early October.  Levels range from 6.0 to 8.0 and are a combined total of players’ ratings, with a 1.0 difference between players on court.  For instance, in the 6.0 level a 2.5 and a 3.5 can play together, but not a 4.0 and a 2.0.  Play format is 3 doubles courts.

 

Super Duper League

Super Duper Leagues for Men & Women are open to USTA members age 70 and over. The season runs from April-August and qualifying teams advance directly the Mid-Atlantic Section Championship in early September.  Levels range from 3.0 to 4.0 and play format is 3 doubles courts.

 

All USTA/VA leagues have a fee of $20.75 (with the exception of Adult Singles, which is $16.75), along with any additional fee required by the Area League Coordinator. 

 

All league teams that advance to a District Championship will have the opportunity to advance to the Section and National Championships, with the exception of Combo and Commonwealth leagues.  For 2009 District & Section Championship dates, check out the 2009 League Calendar.
